Good things are happening in Point Hope (Tikigaq), Alaska, population 700. Through a $1.4 million grant made possible by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Community Connect Grants Program, Artic Slope Telephone Association Cooperative (ASTAC; Anchorage, Alaska) has launched a broadband project that will enable the company to reach residents, businesses and anchor institutions with advanced services.
This is potentially life-changing news for those living in Point Hope, an area located approximately 720 air miles northwest of Anchorage above the Arctic Circle on a “spit of land” jutting into the Chukchi Sea.
